We all know that SharePoint (MOSS) is being heavily used for basic document management and collaboration services. We also know that the software is often deployed in an environment where it must be integrated with other technologies like content management systems and portals -- why else would so many Enterprise CMS vendors cooking-up nifty connectors and building repository bridges?

The message is clear: Knowledge workers the world over are putting a lot of digital stuff into MOSS and if your tech can't talk MOSS, you're liable to be left out in the cold.

Magnolia 3.0 is out the door. A "commercial open-source" project, Magnolia integrates web content management (CMS) and document management (DMS) through a single, web-based, AJAX-powered user interface.

Version 3.0 brings together 3+ years of research and development and is one of the few CMS products to support the JSR-170 content repository standard.


Alfresco, a provider of open source enterprise content management software, today announced the immediate availability of a technology preview of the Alfresco open source content repository and portal integrations.

Alfresco includes an enterprise-scale content repository, JSR-168 portlets for managing and using content, and a Common Internet File System (CIFS) interface that provides Microsoft Windows file system compatibility.

Alfresco developed the system using the latest Java technologies, including JBoss Application Server 4.0, JBoss Portal 2.0, Spring 1.2, Hibernate 3.0, MyFaces 1.0, Lucene 1.4 and Java 1.5.


Stellent, Inc. today announced the release of the Stellent Content Portlet Suite. The Content Portlet Suite is designed to enable portal developers to provide access to Stellent Universal Content Management services, such as check-in, workflow and search, via JSR-168 compliant portal servers such as BEA, WebSphere, Plumtree, and Sun Enterprise Server.

"Content Portlet Suite supports content requests from portals in real-time, directly from the content management system, through JSR 168 portlets," said Dan Ryan, executive vice president of marketing and business development for Stellent.


Bowstreet a provider of J2EE tools has announced the latest version of their Portlet Factory (v5.8) and the launch of a JSR 168 validation program, co-sponsored by other industry leaders.

Portlet Factory enables the rapid creation portlets and is now compatible with all portal platforms that support the JSR 168 specification.
