Knol is stirring up a fuss

When we first wrote about Knol, Google's online knowledge management service, there didn't seem to be much interest in it. After all, Google's forte is search, is it not? Now that Knol has been released to the general masses, popular opinion is everywhere about the service -- good and controversial.

Social Media moves so fast, it's hard to keep up. Here's the week's major developments, in scan-friendly format.

This week:

  • Google Knol
  • Facebook/Microsoft search deal
  • Loopt's cheaper GPS deal
  • Google buying Digg?
  • New APIs/developer platforms
  • It's a Miracle! Apparition of Robert Scoble in a Grilled Cheese Sandwich!

Google has decided that it needs to get deeper into the knowledge management business! They have announced a new free tool called knol- still in beta - that enables authors who know a lot about a particular subject to write about it. Knol is Wikipedia, but with perks! (meaning it could be paid).
