The process of managing content across various media channels has evolved so as to keep up with the new and emerging types of media. It used to be photos and email, but now it’s mobile, video and social networking. Yet, as the enterprise increases its adoption of digital content through new and innovative technologies and tools, so have the challenges related to management of digital content.
 

Things are moving pretty quickly in the Web CMS world, as usual. Accordingly, hot on the heels of WordPress 2.8 comes an announcement about 2.9. With the upcoming version already in the development process, the team behind the highly popular blogging platform dropped a few hints on us last week about which direction the future is taking them in.

A sizable chunk of the WordPress audience recently expressed the desire for more/better media features. As a result, version 2.9 will reportedly come with an infrastructure better equipped for media handling.

In order to determine exactly what WordPress users wanted to see the most, the development team posted some possible features on their blog and told anyone and everyone to vote. Included in the list of possibilities: Flickr-like photostream, a revised media UI, bulk media input API, media albums, easier embeds, better media settings and custom image sizes, among others. Unfortunately the survey is already closed, but word on the 'Press street is that a more solid list of the anticipated 2.9 features will be posted some time this month, after the priority has been determined.

Naturally, the number of contributing developers will play a large part in the process, so if you’ve ever thought about taking a dip in the WordPress development pool, now is the time. Vjoon (news, site) is a German company offering a "for-rent" web publishing solution for those in the media.

Clickability is keeping their eye on the marketplace. Even in a time of economic instability, companies are not going to turn their websites off. Which is good news for the SaaS-based Web CMS provider. Today they offer a new solution to their large base of media clients.

The Clickability Media Solution is a consolidation of features, functionality and partnerships in the media space, tailored to the needs of the publishing industry and designed to make publishing even easier.

It’s hard to know what the deal is with Vignette. Poor financial results and some unflattering press throughout the summer suggest all’s not well with this aristocratic web and enterprise content management brand. But awards aplenty and an enduring client-base chock-full of marquee names suggests the opposite.

Ademero Inc., a document management solutions company, has released version 4.5 of Content Central. Hard at work, evidently, as it was only back in January when they released version 4.1.

As PHP continues to gain momentum and earn respect from organizations both big and small, language luminaries from across the globe are preparing to meet in San Francisco October 8th through 11th for the so-called world’s largest gathering of of the PHP community.

Last month we reported that Mochila, the first global online media marketplace for print, video, and photo content, announced a partnership with Clickability. This development created “a broader distribution channel for client content” and “an outlet to earn money via Mochila’s innovative AdMatch program.”

Adobe put the “portable” in Portable Document Format, and now DocsCorp has announced its pdfDocs formFiller, an application that integrates with Enterprise CMS solutions such as Hummingbird (Open Text), Interwoven, TRIM Context, and Worldox. Out of the box the tool gives users the ability to fill-in, edit, save, digitally sign and forward PDF forms as part of a business process workflow.
