Marianna Virtanen, professor at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (Finland), proved this point with her research in the last few years, which led to this thesis. The title of her work pretty much summed it up: "Long Working Hours and Health in Office Workers: A Cohort Study of Coronary Heart Disease, Diabetes, Depression and Sleep Disturbances."

Checking email at midnight? Heart attacks coming. Putting the finishing touches on that proposal for the morning meeting at 1:30 a.m.? Diabetes is on its way.

CMSWire Survey: Majority of Readers are Well-Paid IT Pros

IT managers make up a bigger share of the CMSWire audience than a year ago, accounting for nearly a third of all visitors, according to our annual salary survey. Respondents also indicated that working with a strong team is more of a concern than "being paid fairly."

The IT professionals accounted for 32 percent of our readers, up 5 percent from the 2013 survey. The next three most popular industry sectors in our 2014 survey were media/marketing (11 percent), professional services (7.5 percent) and financial services (6 percent). 

All four groups are heavy users of the digital marketing, customer experience management, information management and social business technologies that dominate the content on the site.

Renewed Buyout Talk Lifts Jive Shares

Shares of Jive Software jumped during the past few days on renewed reports that the social business provider is seeking a buyer.

Talk of a takeover has risen repeatedly since last May when Bloomberg News reported SAP passed on the deal. The latest report came on Tuesday when Re/code writer Arick Hesseldahl reported the company has been seeking a sale over the past several months with the help of the investment bank Qatalyst Partners, which is led by Frank Quattrone.

Company officials were mum. "We don't comment on rumors," said investor relations spokesman Brian Denyeau. Company spokeswoman Amanda Pires added nothing.

The Future of Office and Features to Use Today

During the Microsoft SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas the big emphasis was on -- to no one's surprise -- Office 365 rather than on-premises versions of SharePoint. While it was great to see the new features Microsoft unveiled, the conference also gave us time to look at existing features that you may or may not be aware of. Let's take a look.

Cisco Releases New Video Collaboration Tools

Smile. You're on camera. With your work colleagues. Harrowing, right, in this work-from-home, don't-care-about-my-hair environment today?

But Cisco is all about enterprise collaboration through video and today released a series of video systems that offer HD quality. It wants enterprises to make video the de facto meeting-room collaboration tool.

The systems are called Cisco TelePresence MX200, MX700 and MX800, the first geared toward smaller conference rooms and the latter two for medium- to large-sized ones. They come with technologies associated with the video platforms from Cisco.

Organizations Need to Cultivate Poets, Not Mushrooms

Thumbnail image for the crow.pngA while back, I delivered a presentation originally titled “writing customer experiences.” Writing because I think of a customer experience as an emotional journey and of the process of designing for customer experience as similar to the process of structuring an evocative story.

But maybe the individual moments in the customer experience are opportunities for poetry.
