Whatever 'Web 2.0' is or was, few organizations have lived and breathed the term as much as Zoho. Bringing office applications into the cloud for commercial and personal use is the most obvious example of this, but equally notable is all the hidden strategic and operational stuff which has brought Zoho, as of last week, to the landmark figure of one million users.

Everyone has a theory about how to recruit the best and the brightest to their company. But how can you be sure which one works best or has staying power? Well, it often depends on the size and type of company that a certain method is employed. Not all methods are created equally.

But it's always interesting to learn about new ones that look at recruiting from a different perspective. Enter Zoho. The creative minds behind the office productivity suite that helps business, small and large, stay organized and efficient in their pursuit of well, business, have taken a fresh approach to gathering the best and the brightest that the world of employment has to offer. Zoho Invites Google, Yahoo! Users to Login

Zoho really wants people to try out their applications. They have opened the doors to users with Google and Yahoo accounts to access Zoho applications without having to create a new username/password. Is this Zoho's step towards the OpenID? Or a ploy to steal Google Apps users away?

Microsoft, Office 2007,SaaS

There’s some interesting talk in air these days around office productivity suites and the move to using purely web-based products. Some predict the end of Microsoft if they don’t make the move to a SaaS offering. Other reports show something completely opposite.

zoho writer, google gears, offline access, google apps

Well they've gone and done it. Google has finally enabled offline access to Google Docs using their Google Gears plug-in. A little late considering Zoho did the same for Zoho Writer way back in November 2007 -- also using Google Gears.

Google Docs and Zoho have always been rather handy for people on the go – you can access your documents from anywhere you can get online, you aren’t having to email yourself documents and it’s dead handy for teamwork, with users finding very useful the potential for sharing and collaboration that applications such as these provide.

Zoho certainly has the can-do spirit these days. It has launched two new web apps in the last week—an effort that is exhausting, yet exhilarating. Especially, because Zoho is focused on making things easier for People. And who doesn't love people?!

zoho interview - raju vegesna

They know their onions at the Crunchies, alright. From 2007's plentiful harvest of genuinely inspiring startups, Zoho was picked as the 'Best Enterprise Startup' of the year. If you're already a user, this is not likely to surprise you at all.

We at CMSWire had the chance to speak with Zoho evangelist Raju Vegesna and he gave us the full organizational down-low: vision, growth, customers, future, past and present. And, of course, Google.

Our conversation was long and wide-ranging; a verbatim transcript would take you, dear reader, all morning to read. So it's been distilled so that you can get a feel for Zoho from top to bottom without having to take a half-day.

zoho wins crunchy for best startup

Didn't your mom ever tell you if you ate your crunchies you'd grow up to be "Best Enterprise Start-up" of the year? She didn't? Well she should have. It worked for Zoho, specialists in creating online tools for knowledge workers.

Zoho Notebook, the web-based tool for storing and sharing mixed content, has been chosen as one of the most innovative products of the year by PC World.

Released last January, Notebook is inspired by the traditional spiral notebook. It provides a web-based platform to assemble written content, drawings, multimedia, rich text and any other form of content you wish and share it with whoever you please. It can be used as a collaborative platform, an online reference source, or just a dumping site for your doodles and scraps.

Zoho releases Show 2.0 on Monday, the latest version of its web-based online presentation application. The new version sees the collaboration features of Show enhanced still further, but the onus this time around seems to be on making Show a more powerful product and - whisper it softly - maybe even a rival to PowerPoint for the individual desktop user!

Javascript vs Flash: Zoho Gets Real

CEO Sridhar Vembu of Zoho wrote an interesting article about why the Zoho suite is AJAX-rich as opposed to Flash-heavy. For those of you who still think AJAX killed the info-architect, it makes for nice reading.

Vembu prefaces the post by stating Flash is a great tool for other stuff (like ToonDoo, par exemple). But for the Zoho suite, the flexible nature of Javascript simply serves users better.

Ever feel the itch to edit a Zoho Writer doc while offline? Now you can.

“People want to take their online documents offline, and we’re going to make that experience as smooth and simple as possible," gushes Zoho-vangelist Raju Vegesna. "Going forward, we’ll be extending offline read/write functionality to our other applications."

Zoho's suite of hosted office tools has been favorably (and endlessly) compared to Google Apps, its reining competitor au marché.

Catch the Zoho Offline editing demo.

Pagination and header/footer support were also brought to Zoho Writer just days ago.
