Now on General Release, AvePoint 6 Unifies, Automates SharePoint Management If you’re a heavy SharePoint user, you will know that it can be used on-premise, online and in hybrid deployments. Managing one type of deployment is difficult enough, but three? AvePoint 6 -- or, officially, DocAve 6, which has gone on general release today -- aims to help enterprises overcome that by pulling the management of SharePoint into one space.

The scope of DocAve 6 even reaches into Office 365 with a bunch of new features that extend the SharePoint platform's governance and management functionality and provide organizations with additional options to enforce governance policies that meet business needs.

DocAve 6

With robust migration, integration, management, optimization, protection and reporting capabilities for SharePoint 2010, DocAve 6 helps to automate SharePoint governance and management.

But this is not new. The original release of DocAve 6 was in beta last September and it was showcased last year along with its Governance Automation solutions at Microsoft’s SharePoint Conference in Anaheim.

And with the announcement of its general release, there don't appear to be any major changes, indicating that the original beta release hit the spot with users.

DocAve already has a good reputation amongst the SharePoint community, and DocAve 6 will only add to it…The new interface for DocAve 6 makes for easy handling of the platform, and improves the user experience in terms of usability, functionality, and content,” said DocAve 6 beta participant Andreas Plantera, System Engineer at AXA-Tech.

DocAve 6 Upgrades

And that, in fact, is one of the major changes in v6. Built with a redesigned, ribbon-based UI, DocAve 6 powers a scalable and robust enterprise deployment. Among other things, there are improvements to:

  • Usability: Built using Microsoft technologies, it provides ribbon-based controls as well as wizards for common SharePoint management functions to automate the process. These include “planless” commands for live backups and content reorganizations.
  • Scalability:  It comes with APIs to customize, automate and extend the platform’s capabilities that offer a holistic and comprehensive approach to SharePoint management.
  • Availability: DocAve 6 users can architect a highly available service resilient in the face of disaster, protecting both the content and configuration of other third-party SharePoint applications and services.

DocAve 6 is generally available to customers now, while the DocAve 6 Service Pack 1, which will include further feature enhancements for customers on SharePoint 2010, is scheduled for release in June 2012.
