SharePoint 2013 was always going to be the focus of the SharePoint conference, which means that Yammer, and its relationship to SharePoint was also going to be a big issue. Axceler has announced a couple of new solutions that demonstrate where this might all be going.
Yammer & SharePoint Getting Cozier
The problems around integrating Yammer and SharePoint are not new. A certain amount of integration was possible straight after the buy as both were able to use their respective APIs to pull the two together.
However, good and great things appear to be on the way as Microsoft announced that it is actively working to deepen that integration with a pulling together of their respective feeds, document management capabilities and unified identities.
It is also getting rid of the Yammer Business edition and cutting the costs of the Yammer Enterprise edition from US$ 15 per user to US$ 3.
Axceler Aims to Ensure Governance for Both
Axceler, one of the driving enterprise collaboration governance leaders for SharePoint, has just officially announced two new products that should give users of SharePoint and Yammer, a bit of a boost. The new ViewPoint enables users see across multiple collaboration environments, while ControlPoint for Yammer will enable users to manage groups, enforce policies and analyze activity in Yammer.
ControlPoint will be familiar to those that follow us here. Axceler has put considerable work into it and releases upgrades regularly. In June, for example, it released ControlPoint 4.6 which came with a governance policy manager. It also offered mobile iPad access via Safari and the ability to manage Microsoft Project sites along the rest of a SharePoint environment.
But this release is about Yammer and the extension of those governance abilities to the platform. It comes with a customizable dashboard that will enable users to carry out analysis and publish reports on the enterprise's use of Yammer.
On top of that ViewPoint will also enable users to set policies and manage permissions across both environments. It is due to be shipped sometime in the first half of 2013 as will ControlPoint for Yammer.
However, if you can’t wait until then, Axceler is actively looking for enterprises to take part in betas for both ViewPoint and ControlPoint. Those that want to should contact Axceler before December 20th. More on both when they are finally released.
