According to the analyst firm CMS Watch, enterprise content management vendors are failing to meet the security requirements of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA).

They claim that, after evaluating a number of ECM technologies, these products are "lacking key security pre-requisites" and are "ill-equipped to meet the security requirements of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)".

Ouch! say the big boys leaning forward in their leather massage chairs.

According to a recent Enterprise Software report by The 451 Group, iDatix, an emerging technology company out of Tampa Bay, Florida, may be holding the key to the next wave of document management solutions for the enterprise – if they can get recognition outside their home town.

They say iSynergy, iDatix’s document management software platform has the potential to “make a disruptive impact in a staid space”.


WSO2 Registry and Web 2.0

WSO2, the open source SOA company has released a new SOA governance registry. True to their Web 2.0 roots, this one combines the required functionality of a traditional SOA registry with Web 2.0 capabilities.

The registry has a web-based interface and a number of Web 2.0 community features like tags, comments, and ratings.

What does all this Web 2.0 functionality really do for the WSO2 registry? Well, it enables non-technical people to easily use the registry along with the usual developers and administrators.

Nstein Technologies Inc, an online publishing solutions vendor for newspapers, magazines and online content providers, has announced the creation of a formal partner program specifically designed for the system integrators and developers community.

The program will first be presented on the company's web site and formally introduced to clients at Nstein's 2008 User Conference in May.

Hinchcliffe's enterprise 2.0 Predictions 2008

Nobody should be surprised that with the beginning of a new year comes a whole lotta predictions about how 2008 will role out in the big wide world of the Internet. These ones are all about Enterprise 2.0 and are from Dion Hinchcliffe, the guy with the really nice Enterprise 2.0 graphics. Here's an overview of what he thinks will happen this year

Refresh Software has just released an updated version of its proprietary component content management offering.

Woven together by DITA, XML and web publishing experts, SR2 7.1 utilizes an SOA-based J2EE content repository. It installs directly into the IT back-end and sports a simple interface for front-end users.

SR2 also:

  • Automates the development of technical documentation
  • Makes it easy to author content on a hosted interface, or via Microsoft Word
  • Enables XML content publishing across the Web, or on intranets, internet, RSS and portals
  • Deploys DITA-based content architecture for topic-related authoring and content repurposing
  • Supports any programming language using Web services or SQL, including .NET and Java

The updated offering also supports data migration, hot deploy external triggers, back-end search, and -- for the aesthetes -- customized WYSIWYG buttons.

EMC Documentum is a leading player in the enterprise content management space. That's not news. What is, is the way the company has, with the release of Documentum v6 (D6), embraced Services Oriented Architecture (SOA) as a first-class principle in its core architecture.
