Atlassian served up new, inexpensive plate of "all-you-can-eat SaaS platform" today. Now, users can get the company's most popular tools — JIRA, Confluence, GreenHopper, etc. — for US$ 10 per month for up to 10 people.

Atlassian kicked out Confluence 4 this week, the latest iteration of the company’s team collaboration software. The new features focus on quick content creation and a greatly improved editing experience. 

There's a brand spanking new Forrester Wave report out that focuses on the best enterprise social platforms available today. Why organizations are using them and who makes the list is our focus today.

Wikipedia is one of the best examples of online collaboration on the web, but wikis in the enterprise often find it harder to gain traction and stick in users minds. Here's a look at what's new with one wiki platform that's getting some enterprise attention: Atlassian Confluence (news, site).

Well kids, the month has come to an end, and thus, so has our extra-focused focus on enterprise collaboration. Hopefully you've garnered enough information over the last few weeks to make a decision that's right for you, but, just in case you  need it, here's a last look at a few platforms that specialize in the social side of things: 

You may not completely agree, but some people say that SharePoint 2007 was a disruptive collaboration technology. Was it the best solution on the market for enterprise collaboration? Probably not. But it did show us a different way of sharing. And it did bring forward a number of new solutions for the enterprise commonly called social software.

As the day draws nearer for Google Apps to drop Internet Explorer 6 support (March 1), other companies are following suit.

Research firm IDC has a new list you might want to pay attention to: 10 Innovative Application Companies Under $100M to Watch.

"IDC has projected 2009 as a year of accelerated adoption of new business models for applications, including software as a service and open source, as well as Web 2.0 capabilities and functionality," says Michael Fauscette, group vice president, Software Business Solutions, IDC.

To pull this list together, they solicited entries from vendors who make enterprise software. Vendors had to meet the financial criteria and demonstrate one or more aspects of three key trends, including Web 2.0 capabilities in the Enterprise, SaaS, BPO or open source solutions, and new business models for software use by service providers. The selection critiria came from the  IDC's Worldwide Applications 2008 Top 10 Predictions.

So who made the list? There are more than a couple of names we recognize, with a particular focus on social computing: Jive Software, Telligent, Atlassian, Kaltura and Trampoline Systems Ltd., among others. There's no specific order to the list, in case you are wondering.

IDC profiles each of the 10 companies in this 9 page report -- that'll run you US$ 3500.

Interesting to note that Atlassian, Jive and Telligent also made Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Social Software in the Workplace.

This is just further evidence of the growing strength of social software in the enterprise and its potential to displace content management as a key technology.

In April Atlassian (news, site) launched the Atlassion Stimulus Package, a 5 day offer to purchase a 5-user license for Confluence or JIRA for only US$ 5. All proceeds of the sale of those licenses went to the Room to Read Charity.

In the end, the sales totaled US$ 110,000, and Atlassian concentrated their donation on Cambodia, building 16 libraries, providing a year of education to 68 girls and publishing one Khmer Language Storybook.

Today, they come out with a new offer, again aimed at the small business market, with all proceeds going to the Room to Read charity. But this time there is no end date for the offer.

• Confluence: Enterprise Wiki -- 10-users
• GreenHopper: Agile Project Management for JIRA  -- 10-users
• Bamboo: Continuous Integration Server -- 10 plans, unlimited local agents, 0 remote agents
• FishEye: Source Code Repository -- 10 committers, 5 repositories
• Crowd: Single-sign on and Identity Management -- 50-users

All software is fully functional and supported by Atlassian. In addition, they are renewable at the same price yearly.

According to Laura Kahlil of Atlassion, "Atlassian is making a commitment to help small teams keep their costs down and to provide continued educational opportunities for children who need it the most."

Atlassian joins a number of other content management industry vendors doing something to make the world a better place. Others include: Kentico (Kentico Goes Green, Plants a Tree for Every Bug in v4.1) and KnowledgeTree (KnowledgeTree's Green Initiative, Plants a Tree for A New Sale).

Atlassian (news, site) says they don't implement features just for the sake of it. That all enhancements to their solutions are based on customer feedback and needs. With the latest release of their enterprise wiki, Confluence, we see that some of these needs are universal across the Enterprise 2.0 market today. All show just how far the wiki has come in only a few short years.
