Connecticut-based Square 9 Softworks (news, site)  has announced that it has upgraded the image capture function in the recently released v2.3 of its SmartSearch Content Management Suite. With the promise that there is a whole pile of improvements coming in 2010, the company says the current upgrade is in direct response to requests from its client base.

Digitech Systems, a provider of on-demand ECM, recently announced that they have significantly pumped up their PaperVision Capture. PaperVision Capture allows businesses to design processes for capturing paper documents and converting them to an electronic format. Users can index them for secure storage, management and retrieval within an ECM system.

The fresh squeezed features include OCR processing, which automatically processes image files, including paper documents converted to electronic format from a scanner or MFP, into searchable indexed files.

Benefits include:

• Convert scanned images: to Microsoft Word, XML, PDF or choose from more than thirty other formats
• Export full-text data: to PaperVision Enterprise, ImageSilo, another ECM system, or a wide variety of line-of-business applications
• Streamline searching for information: convert images to full-text data to be able to pinpoint search for a word or phrase

 For anyone that thinks current technologies are a bit one-sided in their cultural orientation -- that they are focused on English speaking, or at the outside, European-language speaking countries -- then the launch of ibml’s global language in-line document scanning will probably be a surprise.

Next week, Informative Graphics Corporation will unveil a significant product update for their Redact-It Desktop software. Version 1.1 will include key optical character recognition (OCR) software that will remove sensitive information from scanned documents.

Examples of these types of data elements include social security numbers, names, phone numbers, account numbers and so on.

A second major feature of Redact-It Desktop 1.1 is the software's new ability to apply redaction functions to Microsoft Office files including MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
