When we first looked at the new MetaVis Technologies (news, site) tools for SharePoint, we knew there would be a lot of interest from enterprise struggling to manage and control their SharePoint implementations.
These tools which include taxonomy support and metadata management for SharePoint -- both MOSS and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 -- are any SharePoint architect's dream, helping with the creation, deployment and management of SharePoint sites.
Today they are generally available to the public and CMSWire caught up with Steve Pogrebivsky, MetaVis CEO and Co-Founder, to check on how the products are being received.

There are any number of SharePoint add-ons and web parts available today. We can't cover them all. But sometimes one crosses our path that we find interesting enough to pass on. That's how it was Friday when we told you about SharePoint Solutions's new Data Zoom Web Part.
And that's how it is today as we tell you about a new offer from Bamboo Solutions (news, site) called SharePoint Navigators -- a new tool that lets you customize and personalize the navigation for your users in Windows SharePoint Services (WSS3.0) or MOSS.

Well this is kind of interesting. Do you have SharePoint Services (WSS) up and running, but would really like to have some web publishing capabilities on top of it. Unfortunately you don't have the money to invest in full blown MOSS just to get web content management. CompleteSharePoint.NET offers you a solution -- a Web content management system built on top of WSS.
We were interested in understanding a bit more about this new Web CMS, so we asked Tommy Segoro -- its creator -- a few questions.

SharePoint, dear SharePoint. We talk about this business collaboration tool -- sometimes called an enterprise content management system -- on almost a daily basis. You either love it, hate it, integrate with it or try to replace it.
Alfresco has chosen the last option.
The Alfresco Share solution can integrate with SharePoint, but more importantly, it can replace it. The software from Alfresco can provide organizations with an open source SharePoint alternative that does all the things Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) does, and a little more. What is under the covers of Alfresco Share? Come, let's have a look.

Microsoft has played a major role in the development of the Content Management Interoperability Specification (CMIS) that is currently in the hands of the OASIS working group. Committed as the team has been, they (including Microsoft) have not provided much information or examples of how CMIS will work with Microsoft's SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS). Until now.
A new MSDN article has arrived that demonstrates how one can integrate an external document repository with MOSS (or the free version of SharePoint, WSS) -- which is exactly what the CMIS spec is all about. Our interest piqued, we took a look and in the following article, we share what we found.

Bamboo Solutions provides a number of web parts and applications for the SharePoint platform. One that is particularly interesting is their MashPoint solution - a free version of the MOSS Business Data Catalog. Now that solution proves even more enticing as Bamboo announces a Mashpoint API which serves to offer a REST-based interface to not only MashPoint, but to SharePoint itself.

Remember those guys who figured out how to hack Vista to allow you to run your SharePoint environment directly on the desktop and not within a vm? Well they are hanging out at Microsoft TECH-ED NORTH AMERICA 2008 this week and they have a product announcement that may interest many SharePoint developers.
It’s called Bamboo MashPoint and it’s a free data integration platform for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Note that important point — it’s for WSS3.0 which means you can start developing and integration enterprise applications into WSS without the need of MOSS and the Business Data Catalog.

Microsoft has some pretty ingenious partners out there. One that is recently in the news for a really beneficial “hack” (their words), is Bamboo Solutions, a provider of SharePoint Web Parts. They have developed a way to help simplify development of SharePoint solutions called SharePoint on Vista. This solution enables developers who have Vista desktop to do SharePoint development outside the server environment.
