Modesty is an uncommon virtue among software vendors. It doesn't matter what part of the technology market they represent — customer experience, digital marketing, social business, web content management systems ....
Everyone claims to be the best, either overall or at least in some niche of its market. And everyone claims to be growing — fast, faster, fastest of anyone in the market.
Now how is that possible? More importantly, how can you validate these growth claims?
It's a tedious, messy job. But someone has to do it. And fortunately, in this case, Deloitte stepped up to the task.
About This List
Deloitte's Technology Fast 500 is a listing of the 500 fastest-growing technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and clean technology companies in North America. For the nineteenth consecutive year, the software sector has been the most visible on this list, with over 230 companies being from this space alone.
We sifted through the list to focus specifically on software companies, since we figured they are likely the most interesting to the CMSWire audience.
Odds are you'll agree. There are a lot of familiar names among the 100 fastest growing software companies on the list, including Rocket Fuel, Acquia, Cloudera, Marketo and TubeMogel.
Acquia, not surprisingly to anyone who knows much about the company, already issued a press release about its ranking. (We told you modesty is a rare virtue in this industry.)
Acquia saw five-year sales growth of more than 4,900 percent and ranked 35 overall on the list. It's the second consecutive year that Acquia has been included on the Fast 500. It ranked second overall in 2013.
But 17 software vendors had even better five year growth rates than Acquia. MobileIron, for instance, a provider of mobile enterprise security, had an unbelievable five-year growth rate: 123,678 percent!
So grab a cup of coffee, sit back and find out which software companies can justifiably claim the most rapid growth. We list the leaders chronologically, along with their overall ranking on the 2014 Technology Fast 500 and their growth rate from 2009 through 2013.
