In the latest move to make itself one of the players in the cloud, Rackspace (news, site) has just launched the equivalent of an app dating site where its new service AppMatcher will match businesses with whatever applications they need from a list of more than 1000 SaaS apps.

Vasont (news, site) unleashes WebLNX, a web-based tool that allows writers to create, update and submit XML content for publishing to Vasont's CMS on the go.

For SMB’s this week there were a number of new releases that should make it easier to work while mobile. Apart from a mobile Business By Design from SAP, Skype is now available to a limited extent on Android v2.1 and above. IBM has also been busy with online tax filing and hosted e-mail.

In a busy week for GRC there have been a few notable releases that are worth looking at. The first is from StoredIQ , which has upgraded its e-Discovery support for SharePoint, while Digital Reef has made its e-Discovery a lot more mobile. In other news, Archive Systems has upgraded its records management platform.

If there were any questions about how IBM (news, site) would use Cast Iron, which it acquired in May, the recent announcement by ADP that it is extending its tax filing system to the cloud and, as a result, a much wider market, gives some idea of how Big Blue is looking to recoup what it paid.

Earlier on in the summer, Motive Systems (news, site) said that it was taking its document management software to the cloud and that it would have the process completed by the end of August. That process is now finished and M-Files Vault, a system that is specifically targeted at the SMB market is now available.

New school year begins, and Microsoft has been very, very busy with upgrades to its Office Web Apps only two months after it is released. SAP, in the meantime, started reselling SteamServe’s document automation solution under a new name.

Seems security has been high on everyone’s list of priorities this week with FaceTime releasing its Socialite software to secure social networks, and HP buying Fortify to add application security at the blueprint stage. Not surprising though, after recent research from Gartner showing security software is a priority for enterprises.

If for no other reason other than the fact that the recently upgraded community edition of Logical Objects document management system is open source, and that even the premium enterprise commercial edition is cheaper than most, the recent upgrade to v5.2 of LogicalDOC is worth a look.

While living in the cloud has become a popular option, companies remain skeptical. No matter how many security precautions are provided, when services like SaaS, IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) and PaaS (Platform as a Service) are offered in the cloud, companies are tentative to employ them.
