Cloud computing is not only a technical and business concern, but also a legal and regulatory issue given the fact that users are essentially handing over the management or storage of their content and data to third-party service providers. In some jurisdictions, it is unlawful to store sensitive data offshore, hence reducing the viability of running cloud deployments. A recent study commissioned by the European Union warns that public clouds might not be suitable for government use, given certain restrictions.

In 2009, the UK government has decided to increase the pace of open source adoption. To achieve this goal, they have outlined a ten-step action plan.

ECM industry association AIIM Europe has just released its survey results from the AIIM Roadshow, which hit 5 cities in the UK last month. Survey says, good news — overall planned spend for ECM technologies is holding strong, despite falling cost-per-seat.

Ok, so there are certainly bigger issues in the world today, but while domestic hypocrisy is in the air this week, I thought I'd at least vent a bit about one instance of it.
Social networking leader and collector of massive quantities of personal information, Friendster has fired a seemingly dutiful and well-respected employee by the name of Joyce Park, aka Troutgirl. Ostensibly she was kicked to the curb for writing about the company in her public blog.
This is not the first time such things have happened. However, it appears to be wildly unjustified and the blogosphere monkeys are going nuts.

Sun Microsystems has hired the developer of the Roller blogging software, Dave Johnson, to design, develop, and deploy the primary blogging system for Sun. Roller currently powers Sun's corporate blog infrastructure.
