Bitrix Site Manager v.11.0 is out with new tools that transform it well beyond CMS website creation, into a full fledged Cloud-based web services development platform, with support for the top web storage destinations including Google Storage, Amazon S3, Windows Azure Storage and OpenStack.

While upgrades to Bitrix’s (news, site) PHP-based Web CMS Site Manager are common enough, there have been fewer upgrades to its ASP.NET version, which was introduced in late 2009. This week though, Bitrix has released a new version as v5.5, which comes with new quick-start solutions as well as performance improvements and improvements to its ORM modules.

Even if the year is winding down, some companies just keep going. Bitrix has upgraded its Intranet software to v9.6, Hyland has released OnBase 10 and IBM has upgraded Lotus Notes Traveller. In other news, new research from AIIM shows that the message may finally be getting through -- a paperless office can have positive results. 

When Bitrix (news, site) released v9.0 of Intranet Portal earlier this year it added Bitrix video, security and process management updates. This week, the introduction of v9.5 focuses on Enterprise 2.0 functionality and drops the ‘portal’ out of its name.

News in the SMB space this week is dominated by new releases. Bitrix has just upgraded its Intranet Portal offering with new social functionality, IBM has launched a SaaS services management help desk for SMBs while Google has been steadily adding more functionality to Docs. Microsoft is also targeting SMBs by paying for a move from Salesforce to Dynamics CRM Online.

Bitrix (news, site) aims to shake up the website management market with a new push in usability and ergonomics to create a simpler way to work.

With both Microsoft and HP paying more and more attention to the SMB market and with the recession now behind us (we hope!), both are hoping small companies will start upgrading their IT networks. With this in mind both are preparing new servers specifically for this space, while Google aims to teach SMBs how to spend their online advertising budgets.

While there are a number of new enhancements with the release of the most recent version of its web content management software Site Manager 9.0, Bitrix (news, site) has focused this time around on providing better security to underline its own claim that it is the most secure Web CMS on the market.

That’s according to Bitrix (news, site), which has just released Bitrix Intranet Portal 9.0, the company’s Enterprise 2.0 solution for collaboration, communication, social networking, workflow and knowledge management for small and medium-sized businesses.

Continuing on with their Software-as-a-Service adventure thanks to a partnership with Parallels, Bitrix (news, site) has announced that it’s working on a new initiative for delivering their Intranet Portal through a SaaS deployment model.  

The upgrade to Bitrix’s Virtual Appliance for Amazon EC2 from 1.4 to 1.5 adds a number of improvements that the company says will enhance the user performance of its content management and enterprise content management software.

With a whole pile of pre-configured settings to nip any software compatibility issues in the bud, Bitrix (news, site) says the new release will speed up all the processes and increase the performance of all the components through its built-in mechanisms.

This version allows users to install Bitrix Site Manager and Bitrix Intranet Portal, or any other applications that use the PHP platform, quicker and more efficiently than previous versions. It also includes the most recent version of the Bitrix web environment with optimized memory usage.

It is protected by both Amazon EC2 security settings and by an integrated firewall which is set up automatically. It also now supports all three data center location regions -- US Standard, US N. California, EU -- Ireland -- after recent EC2 development.

However, that is not all you get. It also comes with the beta release of Amazon EBS (Elastic Block Device) customized for Bitrix users giving them 1TB of back-up power for web projects and intranet portals.
