“How the heck did I get stuck in this role?”

Admit it, you’ve probably run out of a meeting and into your cube, hidden your face in your hands and bitten your lip to keep yourself from screaming these words or others like them — at least once or twice.

If you’re like most people, you’ve worked in a department or on a project where your “assigned” responsibilities didn’t play to your interests or strengths. Maybe you’re someone who thrives on getting things done and that job has been assigned to the dreamer in the corner who keeps coming up with new ideas instead of acting.

And then there’s that woman who keeps telling everyone how great they’re doing instead of coming up with a plan.

Wouldn’t it be great if your team lead or manager knew the work styles of you and your coworkers better? And for that matter, you’d like to know a bit more about how everyone gets things done too. Like does “soon” mean in five minutes or “I’m still thinking" about the best approach?

It depends on who you’re working with and talking to, of course.

And while it would be great if a job title reflected a person’s work style, that’s usually not the case.

Jive Bridges the Gap to Office 365

If you don’t talk to Office 365, you don’t have an enterprise play. At least when it comes to productivity apps, that is.

OK, maybe that’s not true quite yet. But it soon will be.

That’s why Jive, a leading provider of communication and collaboration solutions for business, has built software connectors for Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook Online, Office Online, SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business.

“We’re bridging the gap between on-premise and cloud versions of Microsoft Office and SharePoint to make collaboration and communication seamless,” said Colleen Jansen, vice president of product marketing at Jive.

Does Jive Do Social Better by Putting the End User First?

Jive may be one of the last enterprise social collaboration pure play vendors that hasn’t been acquired. That may very well free it to do what its competitors can’t — namely, to innovate and integrate without constraint because it isn’t locked in to anyone or anything.

The company is committed to helping its customers realize more engagement, more value and more results through its platform which is used by leading corporations such as EMC, Prudential, Thomson Reuters, T-Mobile and many others.

Yesterday the company, which Gartner has named to its Leaders Quadrant, unveiled its “Summer Cloud Release” which aims to drive productivity in the enterprise by providing “a more customized, enhanced, enterprise collaboration experience across all mobile devices.” The release leverages Cisco’s real time communication services like WebEx and Jabber.

Transforming Connections in an Age of Digital Change

The goal of marketing still revolves around accelerating new and repeat sales. But the means to that end has shifted over the past few years.

This fundamental shift can be tied, in part, to digital innovation. However, it’s not just about technology. It’s about the lifestyle shift and what could be considered a "workstyle" shift, which I define as a person’s expectations and preferences in how they work and engage with a company.

How can companies transform the ways they engage with customers and partners and connect to their existing marketing automation systems? Here are three significant points to consider.

Thank You, Jive, Let's Get Producteev

ProducteevDomestic task management is hard enough, unless you’re one of those drones who gets a charge from crossing something off of your “honey do” list.

Put yourself in the office where teamwork and collaboration are defaults and keeping track of things — like who’s doing what, where’d you put that, when are you going to finish your part so that I can do mine, what’s the priority — becomes a nightmare.

Or not, if you have Producteev, a social task management solution, offered by Jive.

Renewed Buyout Talk Lifts Jive Shares

Shares of Jive Software jumped during the past few days on renewed reports that the social business provider is seeking a buyer.

Talk of a takeover has risen repeatedly since last May when Bloomberg News reported SAP passed on the deal. The latest report came on Tuesday when Re/code writer Arick Hesseldahl reported the company has been seeking a sale over the past several months with the help of the investment bank Qatalyst Partners, which is led by Frank Quattrone.

Company officials were mum. "We don't comment on rumors," said investor relations spokesman Brian Denyeau. Company spokeswoman Amanda Pires added nothing.

Cell Phone Habits of Highly Annoying People [Infographic]

MadonnaYou have to love a business that has the gumption to ban Madonna -- simply for having the audacity to use her cell phone. But that's just what happened in October after the performer dared to ignore the strict no-talking and no-texting policy at the Alamo Drafthouse, an indie cinema chain known for its commitment to cinema-going etiquette.

It was probably the smartest marketing move the chain has made since opening its first location in 1997. It not only demonstrated that it treats everyone equally, but also proved that nonstop texting and talking are simply out of control.

And it left a lot of people wishing they had the power to do exactly what management at that New York City theater did to a performer who clearly thought she was more important than those around her: Stand up, speak out and tell someone to get off the phone.
