Heading into Day 2 of the SharePoint conference in Anaheim, Calif., and in terms of new releases migration tools and enterprise collaboration remain the buzzwords among delegates and vendors -- not surprising, really, given the relative youth of SharePoint 2010. Here are some of today’s noteworthy announcements:

MetaVis Demos MetaVis Online

While MetaVis announced MetaVis Online last week, the Anaheim conference is the first time that anyone has really had a chance to look at it in public.

MetaVis Online is, the company says, the first enterprise-class SaaS SharePoint migration solution to enable companies, government agencies and schools to migrate to Office 365 SharePoint Online.

It can scale either way to meet the needs of any size customer. To use it, enterprises register at www.metavistech.com, then enter their source and target SharePoint sites via a browser, mobile phone and/or tablet to begin migrating.

MetaVis Online also enables companies to create and manage hybrid (premise-based and hosted) SharePoint environments, with  pricing starting at US$ 250 for SharePoint to Office 365 SharePoint Online.

It is also available to SharePoint Managed Service Providers (MSPs) as a dedicated Microsoft Azure-based Platform as a Service (PaaS) to improve the speed of onboarding to their hosted SharePoint offering. A free trial is also available.

Quest Upgrades Migration Suite

Quest Software has also unveiled its SharePoint migration solutions at Anaheim.Migration Suite for SharePoint is an all-in-one product that can facilitate migrations from SharePoint on-premises, SharePoint Online, BPOS, Windows File Servers, Exchange Server Public Folders and Outlook to either SharePoint on-premises or SharePoint Online.

With one installation and license key, this agentless suite provides flexibility for SharePoint administrators, enabling them to add functionality and features as they are needed.

Quest also announced upgraded features to Migration Manager for SharePoint (migrate information from SharePoint 2003 and SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010), Public Folder Migrator for SharePoint (migrate Exchange Public Folder content to SharePoint on-premises) and File Migrator for SharePoint (migrate Windows file shares to SharePoint on-premises).

IGC Provides Doc Review with Yammer

Meanwhile, enterprise collaboration vendor Informative Graphics Corporation (IGC) announced an integration that will provide a more powerful collaborative document review experience for Yammer users.IGC and Yammer are demoing the integration at the conference at IGC Booth #252.

Learning Opportunities

Yammer users will be able to open a document in IGC’s Brava!Viewer from their enterprise content management system and add comments at specific locations within the document.

The comments can then be pushed to the user’s Yammer feed with a link to the document in the repository for further collaboration. To ensure document security and integrity, Brava never alters the original document, only sending an encrypted rendition to the user’s workstation.

When subsequent users view an edited document, the corresponding Yammer thread is displayed in Brava, ensuring reviewers see all comments and discussions related to the document. Both Brava and Yammer are designed to work securely within the enterprise, so the solution ensures content stays secure and compliance objectives are met.
