Jive Integrates SAP BusinessObjects into Social Business Software
Yesterday's theme of integrating social software and business data (via application integration) was echoed by Jive Software (news, site). They have announced a new agreement that will see SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence onDemand solutions integrated into Jive's Social Business Software suite.


Jive SBS Adds Advanced Analytics

Jive's Social Business Software was announced in early March. It was a directional shift for the company creating what they called the first purpose-built, enterprise-class, Social Business Software application suite. What they did was say goodbye to their Clearspace and Clearspace Community brands and rebrand all the functionality under one roof, calling it SBS 3.0.

It currently does offer analytic capabilities that track user activity and provide engagement and sentiment metrics on user-generated content. Apparently that wasn't enough though.

Jive has announced an OEM agreement with business intelligence software provider SAP AG to integrate SAP BusinessObjects BI onDemand offerings. What does this integration add to the SBS suite? Advanced cloud-based data analytics and reporting.

This integration provides customers of Jive's SBS 3.0 suite, indepth analytics and reporting capabilities without having to deal with issues like data management and infrastructure for a similar in-house solution.

What Does SAP's Software Add to the Mix?

SAP BusinessObject's BI software is one of the most known business intelligence solutions on the market which includes the ability to do ad-hoc and what-if analysis for planning.

What's not clear though is how it will provide analytics for the SBS internal and external communities. According to Jive, organizations can share, discuss and collaborate on business data and then use SAP's BI software to generate analytics and reports. What what type of reports would you generate here, what analytics would you see?

It is interesting the different approaches being taken by Telligent and Jive. Telligent has chosen to build their entire analytics solution in-house with a strong focus on social analytics, something that should be a high priority in any solution that offers social capabilities. Although we know that Jive has some social analytics capability, but we aren't seeing the social analytics in this new agreement.
