In an effort to recruit additional .NET developers, Microsoft have lowered the barrier to entry by introducing the Visual Studio 2005 Express line of tools. An important addition here is the Visual Web Dev product -- a low end, web development only version of Studio. To quote MS, "the Express products, expand the Visual Studio product line to include lightweight, easy-to-use, easy-to-learn tools for hobbyists, enthusiasts, and novices who want to build dynamic Windows applications and Web sites." The offerings include VB, C#, C++, J#, Visual Web Dev, and SQL Server Express. The VS tools are all designed to work exclusively with .NET 2.0. Learn more.
