Because Woodwing Software (news, site) is known for "innovative cross-media publishing solutions," it only makes sense that it also creates innovative cross-platform solutions. But in this instance, going cross-platform requires a little help from a friend.

Who is that friend, you ask? In this case, the friend -- and by friend, we really mean partner -- is none other than leading mobile software development firm, The Saints. I don't know if their products are as unique and innovative as everyone says they are, but they get my vote for coolest company name.

New iPad, iPhone, Android Apps

Let's get into the details of this partnership. You will remember that it wasn't that long ago that we were touting Woodwing's upgrades to its iPad, iPhone and Android Reader Apps.

Apparently, as good as those apps were for iPhone and Android, they weren't good enough. In fact, Woodwing went to The Saints (see, isn't it just cool to read that) and asked them to build new versions of both apps.

Why does Woodwing need an iPhone and Android Reader App? The answer is simple -- Newsfeed. The generically named Newsfeed is a new application from Woodwing that allows publishers to push content to the Reader Apps running on user's mobilie devices.

This may not seem like a big deal to those of us who sleep with our smartphones, but publishers love the idea of knowing that their content is going to be in front of a user the next time that user fires up a given application.

When Can We See It? When Can We Have It?

iPhone users can grab the iOS app now, but Android users will have to wait until June. If you don't have an iPhone or you don't want to until June, the Newsfeed solution will be on display at the WoodWingXperience in Amsterdam on May 24-25. Now you have a reason to take a trip to Amsterdam.

Are you using the iOS app in coordination with Woodwing's Newsfeed solution? If so, we would love to hear about your experiences in the comments.
