Open Source Web CMS XOOPS Improves Ease of Use in Latest Release

The team at open source content management provider, XOOPS has released the latest version of itsplatform. Although the release has a minor version number update to 2.5.4, the enhancementsare major if you care about ease of use.

XOOPS, but Easier to Use

The latest version of PHP-based XOOPS includes severaldefect fixesand version updates tomultiple open source libraries like PHPMailerand the TinyMCE WYSIWYG contenteditor. These changes are beneficial,but the big news is updates to the userinterface.  XOOPS had made asignificanteffort to convert its user interface to a consistent lookand feel. Goingforward, one module will be the official base for allmodules supported byXOOPS. According to XOOPS representatives, thenew, more consistent userexperience should drive:

  • Reduced development time and costs
  • Reduced maintenance costs
  • Increased customer satisfaction

The XOOPS team isn’t stopping with enhancing the userinterface. Thenext release will focus on combining the most popular XOOPSmodulesinto a single basic module installation pack. The pack is available inbetanow for testing. The change will likely be a welcome addition fornew usersthat want to get up and running fast since there are over1,000 themes andmodules available for XOOPS.

Although XOOPS does not receive as much press asDrupalor Joomla!, it is quite widely used. The open source platform has managed to thrive for a decade. Users like the flexibility of the module-based platform. The core includes a limited set of features, butthe platform canbe expanded using one of its many modules which canbe activated using theplatforms administrative interface.
