Open-source tool automates transformation of static templates into managed CMS sites.

The Gist

  • AI-assisted conversion. Developers can transform HTML templates into CMS-managed sites automatically.
  • Workflow acceleration. Reduces manual setup time with AI-driven integration in CrafterCMS.
  • Team productivity boost. Digital teams gain speed and autonomy, shortening delivery cycles and reducing developer bottlenecks.

Enterprise teams converting static HTML templates into managed CMS projects now have an AI-powered shortcut from CrafterCMS.

CrafterCMS on Jan. 22 released agent AI skills designed to automate the conversion of static HTML templates into fully managed CMS projects. The tool is available now via the CrafterCMS Marketplace and as an open-source project on GitHub.

According to company officials, the skill analyzes raw HTML templates and generates the structure, configuration and integration needed to run as a CrafterCMS site backed by Git-based workflows. The release targets enterprise digital teams that often start with static HTML templates from design agencies or third-party marketplaces.

The company asserts the tool reduces what traditionally required days or weeks of manual effort to a process completed in minutes.

Recent CrafterCMS Developments

CrafterCMS has spent the past year embedding AI into its enterprise headless CMS, culminating in a series of product releases that position the vendor as an AI-native content platform.

The company released version 4.4.0 in June 2025, followed by multiple enterprise patch releases through December. In August 2025, German digital agency XIMA Media joined the CrafterCMS Solution Partner Program to target public-sector clients in Europe.

Late December brought two notable AI announcements. Crafter Software pre-announced CrafterQ, an enterprise AI chatbot platform slated for early 2026. Days later, CrafterCMS released an open-source MCP Client Plugin enabling LLMs to interact directly with content workflows. DevContentOps Magazine ranked CrafterCMS as the top enterprise-grade headless CMS for 2026.

AI's Intersection With the Digital Experience Stack

Content management platforms are embedding AI directly into development workflows to automate the conversion of design assets into production-ready code. These advances are reshaping digital experience platforms across the enterprise software landscape.

Builder's visual headless CMS allows users to prompt AI to build interfaces based on visual descriptions or by linking directly to Figma designs. Kajoo offers a Figma plugin that connects design files to AI-powered code generation, while Sitecore introduced SitecoreAI, featuring Agentic Studio with 20 AI-powered agents automating workflows from campaign planning to content migration. Kontent.ai launched its Agentic CMS to automate governance, compliance and translation workflows.

Adobe's AEM evolution demonstrates how agentic AI automates content creation, metadata tagging and translation while maintaining compliance standards.

CrafterCMS Background

CrafterCMS offers a Git-based, API-first content management platform aimed at enterprise digital experience teams. Founded in 2013, the platform features a decoupled architecture with REST and GraphQL APIs and targets medium-to-large enterprises in financial services, hospitality, education, publishing and retail. Organizations evaluating the platform can compare it against other headless CMS platforms to determine the best fit for their content infrastructure needs.
