Raleigh Butler is an editorial assistant at the CMSWire publication within SMG.

Prior to joining SMG, Raleigh focused her work on science writing. Some of her work included writing for Informa Media (a FTSE 100 company) and the American Oil Chemists’ Society. In 2021, Raleigh received the Creative Feature Article Writing Award from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign for her story “The Story Behind the Race to Test for COVID-19 at the University of Illinois.”

Her education focused on both journalism and language as a whole. In 2021, she earned her M.S. in journalism from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She received her B.A. in 2017, double-majoring in linguistics and French at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). While at UTK, she was a 2017-18 Fulbright semi-finalist for Switzerland, having applied to conduct linguistics research.

Raleigh enjoys combining science with the creativity of writing, valuing the opportunity to work in both realms simultaneously. She is also fascinated by the “creativity” of AI and looks forward to seeing how that field progresses.

Raleigh lives just south of Nashville, Tenn. with her family and her rescue cat, Gizmo. She is passionate about nerdy television shows (especially Doctor Who), travel and animals. You can probably find her befriending the nearest pet.
