How do you find the content stored in Office 365? Microsoft thinks its new Admin Center could help.

Of course, helping people find content is not the only purpose of the new release. The overall objective is to improve administration of the Office 365 Suite.

The Admin Center has been in preview since September,  but is now being released "as the default experience" for organizations. All features will gradually be added over the coming weeks, but users can also directly log in to it at portal.office.com/adminportal/home.

The Admin Center offers "significant improvements to Office 365 reporting." Reports currently available include active Office 365 users, email traffic and Office activations. And over the coming months Microsoft will add reports for OneDrive, SharePoint, Yammer and Skype for Business activity as well as on user interaction with Office 365, such as which operating systems users are on when they access the service.

Microsoft also noted that the Admin Center makes it faster and easier to manage Office 365 by showing frequent tasks directly on the dashboard and by simplifying the experience.

OpenText With SAP Hybris

OpenText extended its global reseller agreement with SAP. The agreement allows SAP to resell the SAP Hybris Digital Documents application by OpenText.

SAP Hybris Digital Documents offers users a unified platform for developing digital content and communications. It is complementary to the SAP Hybris Digital Assets Management application by OpenText, a omnichannel digital asset management solution.

SAP Hybris Digital Documents enables businesses to use big-data insights to provide proactive, contextualized communications with their customers that are integrated into data and processes running in SAP Hybris solutions

Aimed at eliminating the need for multiple and complex solutions, it provides a unified platform to help simplify omni-channel communications and personalize the information across channels

E-Signature Trouble

Over the past year, a number of business process vendors have added e-signature to their overall offering to enable end-to-end processes. There have also been major improvements in e-signature offerings from the bigger players in the space.

You would be forgiven, then, for thinking, that obstacles to the adoption of e-signature were starting to fall. Recent research from AIIM, however, appears to contradict that.

It shows that 56 percent of business executives are stuck on signatures on paper for contracts and order forms. A further 31 percent agree that most of the paper documents they retain are retained only for the signatures.

The findings are based on a survey of 430 members of the AIIM community last August and September.

Learning Opportunities

With new EU eIDAS regulations set to take effect on July 1, there remains widespread confusion over the use of e-signatures from country to country. But eIDAS will clearly define where and how e-signatures can be deployed nationally and internationally and establish a single, legal framework for Europe.

Google Improves Docs Navigation

Google is also making it easier for users to find their way around documents. It has released a new outline tool designed to help users find sections or pages of documents easier.

It includes a display panel of a document’s structure on the left side of the screen, which users can move in and out of with a touch.

The tool appears on the Docs web app as a sidebar on the left of the screen and on the Android app as a scrollable list on the right. No word yet on when or if there will be an iOS release.

The tool will also automatically create sections, and allow users to scroll through documents from a new navigation handle that will appear once you start to scroll.

Lepide Migrates Docs To Google

Lepide released version 16.0 of LepideMigrator for Documents solution.

While there are a number of notable improvements here, the one that really stands out is Google Drive document migration, enabling IT teams to migrate from traditional File Servers to the Google Drive platform.

It provides two authentication methods:

  • Web authentication: Where it provides the ability to migrate content to a personal account of a user
  • Service account authentication: Where you can migrate to multiple Google Drive user accounts
