Tweet Jam: Expectations of the Emerging CDP Marketplace #DXchat

In the few short years since customer data platforms (CDPs) first came on the scene, the market has grown from a few vendors to now over 70 claiming to provide a unified customer record. But are all CDPs built the same? And where do they fit in the marketing stack?

Join us on April 24 when we'll dig deeper into the customer data platform space with the goal of clearing up some confusion. Everyone is welcome to join in on Twitter, by using the #dxchat hashtag. The conversation will kick off at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 1700 UTC.

The Questions

The following questions will guide the conversation, but we encourage participants to listen to and respond to each other's answers.

  1. Given the variance between solutions claiming to be CDPs, what key differentiators should buyers focus on when evaluating CDPs?
  2. The CDP Institute adjusted its definition of customer data platforms to drop the "marketing-managed" criteria. Will this scare buyers away or is it a step in the right direction?
  3. We asked this question a year ago, but want to ask again: How can a business assess if it needs a CDP?
  4. Is it better to buy (e.g. packaged software) or build (e.g. use open source) your CDP?
  5. Share one unexpected or less frequently discussed application for a CDP that marketers may be unaware of.
  6. Do CDPs replace existing solutions in a company's stack or do they act as a supplement?
  7. How does the concept of master data management (MDM) fit with a CDP?

Participation Guidelines

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Introduce yourself with your first #dxchat tweet. Include your name, job title and organization.
  • Answer question one with A1, question two with A2, etc. — and always include the #dxchat hashtag. For example, "@bigbird A2 It's a step in the right direction — the goals and results remain the same, but the expectations of ease of integration are now more realistic #dxchat"
  • Please don't pitch products or services — stay knowledge focused.
  • Have fun!
