“Spreading the survey love.” That’s the way SurveyMonkey is describing its new developer portal and data APIs, designed to facilitate integration of its surveys with other applications.

SurveyMonkey said that the new functions, powered by API management provider Mashery, make integration easier than ever, with enhanced analysis capabilities, direct CRM integration, real-time response alerts and snapshots of respondent demographics. The Developer Portal, for registered developers, includes documentation, a forum and a browser-based console for testing API services.

HootSuite Integration

Founded in 1999, SurveyMonkey says it is the world’s largest survey company and that it helps customers collect over two million online survey responses daily.

SurveyMonkey CEO Dave Goldberg said in a statement that the new API and portal allow "companies of all sizes” to gain access to its platform. The company also cited social media management provider HootSuite is expected to enhance its dashboard later this year with SurveyMonkey capability.

Mark Holder, Director of Integration Partners at HootSuite, told news media that the integration will provide the ability for customers to “survey members of their social communities, as well as view and analyze real-time survey results, from the same place they manage and execute social campaigns.”

Response-Triggered Alerts

SurveyMonkey said that other uses of the integration could include customer support alerts triggered by responses, such as a user’s negative or positive response to a company’s product or service being flagged in real time. Contacts from a survey could also be added to newsletters or CRM solutions, or survey respondents can be presented in a demographic snapshot.

Companies could also automatically distribute URLs of their surveys throughout marketing channels, such as email or social media, or survey respondents could be added to an email list. Surveys can also be used within human resources departments, such as adding responses to a HR dashboard in order to manage applicant tracking or employee feedback.

SurveyMonkey indicated that it will continually be adding API functions to enhance integrations, such as a near-future launch of the ability to notify survey owners that responses have arrived.
