Telligent (news, site) is social software built on the Microsoft platform. So it only makes sense they integrate some of Microsoft's key products with their platform. In February, we saw integration with SharePoint 2010. Now we see the next connector out in beta: Telligent Connect for Microsoft LyncBETA.

Expanding Functionality in the Community

Telligent offers a platform that supports both internal and external communities. Telligent Enterprise is its answer to communities within the enterprise. It's this version that has the SharePoint 2010 integration we talked about in February. The initial integration is between SharePoint document libraries and a consolidated activity streams.

Now, Telligent Enterprise 2.6  has been integrated with Microsoft Lync Server 2010 -- formerly Microsoft Office Communication Server -- providing unified communications such as:

  • Presence awareness
  • Chat (aka instant messaging)
  • Advanced communications such as video and audio conferencing, whiteboards, desktop sharing, etc.

These are all important communication tools for collaboration and it isn't difficult to see how they would be leveraged inside communities.

For Microsoft customers not yet using the Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Telligent partner Building Blocks offers an OCS Connector for Office Communicator Server 2007.

For everyone else, there a video that demonstrates how the integration works.
