First Joint Offerings: E-Mail Management, Content Archiving, Web Content Management Open Text(TM) Corporation and IXOS SOFTWARE AG announced plans to roll out their first combined Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions beginning in six months, including new e-mail management, content archiving and Web Content Management capabilities. For customers, the solutions address some of their toughest content management and storage problems by providing the most complete set of capabilities available, including: -- An integrated solution for managing, tracking and storing e-mail to improve compliance with corporate governance and other legal requirements; -- A series of Web Content Management products that can be applied to any Web publishing or development need; -- New content archiving for Open Text's Livelink suite to give customers greater flexibility in their choice of storage solutions. Together, Open Text and IXOS, along with Gauss Interprise, form the largest provider of ECM software in the world. The companies are moving quickly to attack the estimated $10-billion ECM market(1) by integrating their products and delivering solutions designed for large, global organizations struggling to manage enormous volumes of electronic information. The new solutions are the first fruits of the companies' long-term strategy to provide customers with easy-to-deploy, enterprise-wide solutions. Customers worldwide already recognize the value the combined companies will bring. One such example is Sasol, a global provider of chemicals and liquid fuels based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The company is using both Open Text's Livelink as well as IXOS content archival solutions. "Currently IXOS' data archiving software is linked with our SAP system, while Sasol uses Livelink to manage capital projects, support ISO certification and processes, and collaborate on research," said Eric Slaghuis, Information Manager: Collaboration for Sasol. "We are anxious to see the strengths of each organization's software solutions married, so that Sasol can optimize its storage solutions and further consolidate systems to reduce costs and overhead." "Demand for end-to-end ECM solutions is growing as companies wrestle with compliance concerns, while trying to reduce the costs of managing and storing information," said Tom Jenkins, Chief Executive Officer of Open Text. "Customers don't want to put the ECM pieces together themselves anymore, there's too much at stake. They want enterprise-wide solutions that integrate the diverse pieces of ECM - from collaboration to document management to content archiving and everything in between. We're taking the first steps in our strategy to deliver those capabilities to customers." The companies' initial offerings are scheduled for later this year, with some components of the Web content management solutions available in the next 60 to 90 days. The solutions include: -- Comprehensive E-Mail Management: Combining IXOS' highly scalable e-mail archiving and storage solutions with Open Text's records management, search and classifications technologies in the Livelink suite. These combined capabilities marry the archiving and storage of e-mail with the ability to implement successful, auditable practices and policies for e-mail search, access, retention and disposition. The solution will support leading compliance requirements from regulatory agencies in North America and Europe. -- Web Content Management: Launching a suite of Web Content Management solutions will meet customers' varied needs, from out-of-the-box Web publishing solutions, to state-of-the-art, Java-based solutions customers can deploy for more sophisticated Web development requirements. -- Content Archiving for Livelink: Adding IXOS' archiving capabilities to Livelink gives customers a flexible storage interface and enables them to choose their storage hardware entirely independently of their application software. IXOS 6 provides connectors to a full spectrum of storage devices from leading vendors such as StorageTek, Hitachi Data Systems and Network Appliance to provide customers with access to unalterable storage and migration capabilities for new devices. "Storage represents the single largest cost when it comes to managing content in an enterprise," said Robert Hoog, CEO, IXOS SOFTWARE AG. "The combined Open Text and IXOS solutions provide customers with greater flexibility and choice in leveraging storage options while significantly enhancing performance and return on investment." Open Text and IXOS, which lead the ECM market with more than 13,000 customer deployments, almost 20 million users and up to $450 million in projected revenue, are showing their solutions at AIIM Expo 2004 underway this week in New York City. The companies are exhibiting in booths 1037 and 1567 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center.
