eZ Systems Supports iPhone, iPad with Enhanced Mobile WCM
The wired world is jibber-jabbing nearly non-stop about iPhones, iPads and the next generation of publishing. Open source web content management vendor eZ Systems (news, site) aims to keep its customers on the edge with the release of a new iPhone and iPad content delivery product complemented by services designed to facilitate custom application deployment to the Apple application store.

Enhancing Mobile Web Content Management

By now you know that you must have some kind of mobile strategy to be competitive in your market. The mobile sector is a US$ 850 billion global market and will comprise 62% of the total telecom market in 2010 (IDC study, Worldwide Mobile Trends: Steady Subscriber Growth, the Proliferation of Applications, and the Mobile Internet ) -- and that's just the US alone.

eZ Systems wants to help you take advantage of this growing channel. In addition to offering basic iPhone and iPad support for existing apps built using eZ's Web CMS, eZ Publish, eZ is working on a toolkit that will let you build iPhone and iPad applications that leverage their web content management system.

With the new toolkit you'll be able to create apps that can do things:

  • Read or view content
  • Interact with the website
  • Actively providing content
  • Rate content and provide feedback
  • Share with others on social networks such as Facebook or Twitter

Supporting Your Mobile App Lifecycle

In addition to the toolkit, eZ Systems will also offer a set of services that will guide you through your mobile projects, from conceptual design to deployment on the Application application store.

Included as part of eZ Premium subscription services, the updates to eZ Publish and the toolkit will be available later this year.

eZ Publish -- Commercial Open Source Web CMS

eZ System's core project is the eZ Publish Web CMS. It's a PHP system increasingly based on upon the company's open source component framework, eZ Components. Key add-ons like eZ Find -- an Apache Lucene and Solr-based search engine, and eZ Flow -- a media and content management module for online publishers, have made the product competitive both in the broad Web CMS world and particularly so for online publishers.

eZ Systems is based in Norway and consequently strongest in the European market. They are currently expanding operations in the US. The technically capable can download the latest eZ Publish build here. Existing customers can look forward to the release of eZ Publish 4.3 at the end of this month.
