Bitrix (news, site) aims to shake up the website management market with a new push in usability and ergonomics to create a simpler way to work.

Surf the Amber Ribbon

Bitrix latest release of its Site Manager app packs in enough new features that you start wondering why they didn't boot the version number up to 10. This release comes on the back of September's version 9.0 release that bolstered security.

The big feature of this release is a new ribbon to help site creators and managers simplify the tasks they face with everyday site management and maintenance. It looks a little like the Office 2007 ribbons and is customizable and offers access to all the usual features, as the video below shows.

The ribbon can be customized and will remember commonly used actions to keep them to the fore. As it is stored online, the admin can use it on any system or browser they need, so it becomes a portable toolkit.

Learning Opportunities

The Full Package

Bitrix Site Manager as a whole offers SMBs a turnkey solution for their site building requirements, featuring creation, management and security tools. A marketing suite helps those looking to sell online while sites can be scaled as the company grows.

Another new feature for 9.5 is an integrated e-learning feature that lets admins run and manage training courses. These can include video and audio content or sharable content object reference model (SCORM) courses. Anyone who has to train staff or wants to sell training content will find this raises the value of the package.

With plenty of templates, page creation wizards, online store and payment integration plus search-engine friendly creation of page titles and links, the latest version of Site Manager takes further strides in becoming a fully rounded solution for the sub-enterprise market.
