Officials at startup web content management system (CMS) provider Bluetrain.io claim their platform shakes up the cloud CMS world.

They're so confident that they boast they can take on the Acquias, Pantheons, Sitecores, Drupals and WordPresses of the world. In an interview with CMSWire, Bluetrain.io officials said their CMS platform is better because it's a multi-tenant, multi-client, multi-brand offering and the first multi-site cloud CMS that's natively responsive.

The platform is the brainchild of Web CMS veterans who have worked on the most popular systems in the world, said Steffan Berelowitz, CEO and co-founder of Cambridge, Mass.-based Bluetrain.

"What innovation we can bring to CMS industry?" Berelowitz asked. "Most platforms were never designed to be multi-surface and multi-screen but most were designed as single instance architecture and never benefited from massive scalability of the cloud."

Less Code

Following an "early release program" with more than 100 developers, marketers and agency partners, Bluetrain.io officially jumped into the CMS fray yesterday (they already had a mobile offering) unafraid to swim with the big boys of web content management.

Bluetrain.io officials promise developers can build complex websites with as much as 50 percent less code than current platforms. They also describe Bluetrain.io as one of the first enterprise CMS platforms to be designed from the ground up to be responsive, handling any screen on any device.

"It's one massive scalable platform that isn't siloed into environments like most single individual architectures out there," Berelowitz said.

Learning Opportunities

Nina McIntyre, CMO and co-founder of Bluetrain.io, admitted it's a "crowded space" with legacy platforms, platforms like Sitecore, platforms in the midmarket space like Ektron. Her company's CMS "is right for modern architecture" and is a "true cloud CMS."

'Right' Approach to Cloud

One Bluetrain.io user -- provided to CMSWire by Bluetrain.io officials -- said developers building websites with the Bluetrain.io platform are doing it faster than ever. The user, senior consultant and interaction architect Boris Krone of Ayantek, said there is "complete design freedom and no need to write low level code. I was able to use coding techniques I know well, and it’s simple for marketers to keep the website current.”

Of course, the real tests for Bluetrain.io starts now with the public release of the platform, when they can't handpick platform success stories. Officials cite current customers of the new platform as AMA Insurance, Rao Institute, the Alovus Group and GoEducationalTours.

They're ready for success, they tell CMSWire.

"This is about really doing the cloud right," Berelowitz said. A lot of people come at the cloud and have said cloud means you take a Drupal instance and host it on a dashboard. Other people say cloud means you allow people to build websites in the cloud. In our view, that's only part of the potential of the cloud. When you combine these into multi-site, multi-client, multi-brand into one massively scalable platform that isn't siloed, you're not hosting a dashboard. It's a true cloud CMS."
